Hedi Slimane's Diary

What I learnt from Hedi Slimane's photo diary-

1. He likes Amy Winehouse and Courtney Love.

2. He likes flowers and broken glass.

3. He's an awesome photographer.

4. Everything looks better in black and white.

Check it out here (there's over 500 photos in his full catalogue).

Oh my! Sean Connery

When Sean Connery was making the 1974 sci-fi movie Zardoz, do you think there was ever a moment where he thought to himself "if I die today, this is the last image of me that the world will ever see... maybe I should put on a dressing gown?"

By the brazen pose he's holding in this photo, it appears not.

But what's even more curious about this photo is, is this is what they thought we'd be wearing in the future? Is this the best the costume designer could come up with? I mean the boots are strangely close (if not a little long) to ones I've seen girls of the present wearing, but that nappy like holster thing...well that's just over estimating the extent of global warming if you ask me. That thing is completely impractical, unless of course you live on a salt plain in the middle of the Arizona desert(as it appears Sean does). And from what I can tell it's constructed of very flimsy material. The costume designer sure had a grim view of manufacturing standards of the future. Apparently zips and belts are out of the question, just tie it all together in a knot!

Wonder if he'll ever make a sequel? I'd pay a fortune to see Zardos 2- Return of the Nappy Warrior!

Photoshop Fantastic

Oh the wonders of Photoshop! Where would the world's celebrities be without it? And more to the point where would ol' Faith Hill be? Presumably in an ad for Dove, if the amount of airbrushing she's received to grace the cover of RedBook magazine is any indication.

I love that the bi-line for the story on her and her husband is 'What's normal about them (and what's not)'. I assume the answer to the second part of that statement is 'her hideously wrinkled face, so unforgivably decrepit it must never be unleashed on the fragile public without first being cleaned up by a highly skilled retoucher!'

Click here to see what they did do make Hill acceptable for public consumption.

Jaw Face Knightly To Face Chanel

Ok so first it was Fergie, then it was the girl from Harry Potter and now it's Keira Knightly. Sheessh I can't keep up.

The 22-year-old has reportedly struck an initial £0.5m ($1m) deal with the French fashion house, says the Daily Mail.

According to a company's spokesman, the actress is "perfect" as the
new face because of her "seductive" looks that fit well to portray a "timeless chic".

"We think Keira is perfect because she is always incredibly alluring and seductive," the spokesman said.

She joins Nicole Kidman, Catherine Deneuve and Vanessa Paradis as Chanel faces.

I'm very disappointed in Karl. Of all the billions of women in the world why Keira?! I could find you a piece of belly button fluff with more charisma than her. "I'm sorry Keira but you are no longer in the running to be America's next top model...now get the fuck out of my sight chompy!"

The New Face of Chanel

According to media reports, EMMA WATSON (aka Harry Potter's Hermione) is odds-on favourite to be the French fashion house's new face, with an announcement expected imminently. The young lass has recently been seen in array of slinky Chanel couture frocks. The Daily Mail is also reported that Watson has signed up with Storm model agency

This little diva is headed for big things! Not that she needs the money. Apparently she's getting 5 million for the next 2 Harry Potter films.

She'll be wearing fingerless gloves and partying with Karl and Lindsay in no time at all.

What's So Good About Yves Saint Laurent?

After hearing that Yves Saint Laurent is on his death bed in Paris, I thought it might be interesting to take a look at what made the designer one of the most influential of the last 100 years.

Yves Saint Laurent began his career working under Christian Dior. In 1957 when Dior died, Yves (at the age of 21) was given the task of resurrecting the failing fashion house. He took on the task with great vigor, bringing the house back from financial ruin. Then, out of the blue, he was conscripted to the army. For a gentle homo like Yves this was a disaster. After 20 days of intense hazing by fellow recruits, Yves suffered what in those days, would have been called a nervous breakdown. He was hospitalized and eventually recovered.

It was in the wake of this disaster that Yves reinvented himself and began what many consider the most creative time of his life. Because of his breakdown he was released from Dior, thus allowing him to start his own label YSL.

So what makes Yves such an important figure in fashion?

Well for starters, without him ready-to-wear would not be what it is today. Yves was the first, in 1966, to popularize ready-to-wear in an attempt to democratize fashion, with Rive Gauche and the boutique of the same name.

He was also the first designer to use black models in his runway shows.

He also created what is said to be the most famous classic tuxedo suit for women in 1966, Le Smoking suit.

The Mondrian day dress, autumn 1965, was one of Yves most popular designs.

During the 1960s and 1970s, YSL was critical in popularizing fashion trends such as the Beatnik look.

In 1993 the Saint-Laurent fashion house was sold to the pharmaceuticals company Sanofi for approximately $600,000,000! Then in 1999 Gucci bought the brand.

Yves has spent the last few years living in Morocco.

His influence will be forever remembered.

Masha's Coming For ya!

Big mistake Georgie! You really shouldn't have bad mouthed her in your last post. Masha may look harmless, but it's all an act. I heard she broke 3 of Gemma Ward's ribs just for looking her in the eyes. And you know why she gets so much work? Cos designers are too scared not to use her. Apparently she once ripped out one of John Galliano's kidneys with her bare hands and ate it in front of him, simply because he didn't send her out first in his last show.

Don't come running to me for help when Masha shows up. I hear she knows 3 types of karate and once murdered the host of Ukrainian's 'Top Model' because she didn't choose her for the show. They don't call her Masha the Smasher for nothing!

Jonathan and Kevin... the Movie

Ahhhhh, this thing is hilarious. I just found this video featuring Jonathan and Kevin, the twin male models I mentioned in the last post. It's the weirdest thing I've ever seen. They look like their about to pash each time they turn around to face each other. It's kind of hot and creepy at the same time. I don't know what to feel, I'm so conflicted. Think I just found something new to discuss with my therapist.

.............................................................

Double the Trouble

These two hottie McTottie's, Johathan and Kevin, are the most in demand twin male models in the world at the moment. According to COACD, they've just been chosen to represent Dior Homme.

I wouldn't have thought there would be that much competition for twin models, especially male ones, but I apparently there is. Wouldn't it be cool to use them in a runway show, one after the other. People would think it was the fastest clothes change in the world.

Wonder if you get a good rate for booking both of them? Buy one get one free?

How HOT is American Apparel?

I am quietly obessed with American Apparel- love the idea of awesome basics in a huge variety of colours and styles. And the campaign images are fucking HOT, they are all shot by creator Dov Charvey. His unique eye and the use of everyday (albeit very good looking) models is fresh and appealing. THUMBS UP DOV!

*my dream guy above- where do you go my lovely?

This One's For Georgie

Georgie often gets compared to a pug dog. I don't know why. Maybe it's because she's cute as button and not yet house trained. Whatever the reason, she's one cute bitch and I love her to bits.

Charlotte Gainsbourg for Paper Mag

One of my favorite magazines is Paper Magazine. And one of my favorite ladies at the moment is Charlotte Gainsbourg (she's the daughter of French singer Serge Gainsbourg). So you can imagine how super excited I was when I saw that Paper mag were shooting her for their next cover. And even better, they've put a behind the scenes video of the shoot on their website. Not much happens in it, but it's still an interesting look behind the lens at a fashion shoot. Plus the music is dreamy and relaxing. Enjoy.

Beth Ditto Designing For New Look

The awesomness that is Beth Ditto, from the band The Gossip, is planning to design a range of plus size clothes for UK store New Look. Speaking to The Sun newspaper Ditto said-

"I'm in talks to do something with them at the moment, I love their stuff."

By getting her own range, Beth will be following in the footsteps of Lily Allen, who has her own line of New Look clothes.

"Lily Allen is not to be messed with," said Ditto of her fellow designer. "But I think she tries to be a role model, which is tough."

Without sounding like a gushing homo, I think Beth Ditto is one of the coolest, most well adjusted performers out there. If I was a plus size lady who lived in the UK, I'd be rocking her outfits any day. (wow, I actually managed to out gay myself... I didn't think that was possible)

Don't Rain On My Parade

Anna Wintour , editor-in-chief of American Vogue, is pictured bracing the rain at the Chanel couture catwalk show at Paris fashion week. (It's oh so common to hold your own umberlla.)

Fergie doesn't seem at all bothered by the giant microphone hoisted in front of her, back stage at the Chanel Couture show on Tuesday.

I swear to god, Fergie and Anna Wintour were the only celebrities to turn up to the Chanel couture show on Tuesday in Paris. I don't know what, or who, is responsible for the poor attendance, but someone needs to claim responsibility, because that is just sad. If the woman who sung "my humps, my lovely lady lumps", is the biggest star you can pull, then you're in real trouble.

I looked for photos of other celebrities but these were all I could find.

Perhaps that episode of Grey's Anatomy with that sad Snow Patrol song at the end kept all the celebs in their hotel rooms. Or perhaps Karl instigated a new fat rule and was thus weighing everyone as they entered, turning away anyone who was fatter than him. Or maybe it was just the rain. Whatever the explanation, I'm sure it must have been a very awkward after party. Can you imagine Anna Wintour and Fergie trying to make polite conversation with each other?

Fergie- "Did you know I used to be a meth addict?"

Anna- "No way, so did I!"

Model of the Month-Hugo's The Boss

Well the results are in. And it seems, with 60% of the votes, that Mr Hugo Sauzay is our winner. So what to say about the man. Well he's French, he's starred in campaigns for Jil Sander, Mulberry, Calvin Klein and Kenzo as well as appearing in runway shows for every and any designer you care to think of. Which is all well and good, but it's not what Model of the Month is really all about. We want to know about the real Hugo; what makes him tick, what makes him happy, what makes him hard. We want to go beyond the surface image and see what's deep inside...his pants.

Unfortunately the closest we'll get are these pics of him. Oh and all his measurements so you can make a creepy replica Hugo doll to freak all your friends out with.

Height: 186cm
Chest 87-34
Waist: 75-29
Shoe Size: 43- 9
Hair: Brown
Eyes Blue-Gray

Dior's 60th B'day Bash at Versailles

According to The Associated Press, last night's 60th B'day bash for Dior at Versailles was THE party to be at-

"Hollywood stars including Charlize Theron, Kate Hudson and Jessica Alba joined guests Monday at the 300-year-old orangery of the castle that was home to France's Sun King, Louis XIV.

"It's amazing, it's like a dream come true," a dazed Alba told The Associated Press. "I can't even believe the grounds and this castle. It's extraordinary."

Stars of the supermodel era, including Naomi Campbell and Linda Evangelista, struck poses in sumptuous evening gowns and 1940s-style suits inspired by the works of painters ranging from Leonardo da Vinci to Pablo Picasso.

The ideas flowed at breathtaking pace, earning the house's British designer John Galliano a rare standing ovation."

Go John! I would have sold my ovaries to an infertile couple to have been there. What the hell does Jessica Alba know about couture?!

Galliano's Party of the Century

This is suppose to happen today! We'll post pics as soon as they show up. So excitement!

"JOHN GALLIANO
is gearing up for one hell of a party. As Christian Dior prepares for its 60th anniversary this summer, rumour has it the British designer will stage a one-off couture show on July 2, inside Versaille's stunning Orangerie. According to WWD, models have already been booked and instructed to arrive an enormous eight hours before showtime - now that's a lot of hair and make-up. No stranger to fashion, the exact location was chosen for a Dior "Matrix"-themed couture show back in 1999.

The palace itself, which hadn't permitted a fashion shoot for over 25 years, also miraculously opened its doors to the American Vogue team last year, for the memorable Kirsten Dunst cover shoot inspired by Sofia Coppola's Marie Antoinette. If you can't make it to France for the show, John will also be making his way to London to throw a Champagne reception with British Vogue, at the V&A, during London Fashion Week on September 18. One of the world's most passionate ambassadors for the survival and genius of Haute Couture, Gallliano will be celebrating the gallery's opening of its aptly named exhibition, The Golden Age of Couture."

Kris Van Assche Debuts for Dior Homme

Dior showed it's first collection since the ousting of former designer Hedi Slimane yesterday.

Kris Van Assche who worked with Hedi for 7 years, was determined to put his own mark on the brand. However it seems that the initial response, on the net at least, hasn't been that positive. Many have criticized the new direction as boring and lacking in the excitement that Hedi brought to the brand.

And it appears that the models at the show may have also felt the same way. Unveiled in a sheikh’s mansion on the Avenue Foch, not a smile was seen on any of the fellas as they posed in a series of static tableaux in three ornate salons.

Cheer up Charlie's! Hedi will be back any minute.

I HEART JOHN GALLIANO

Genius John Galliano opened his provocative Paris show with the outfit below, surely a comment on the current climate. Models wore neon camouflage prints, loose or padded jackets and combat-style vests with pockets and straps strung over bare chests. Exposed skin was daubed with army-style camouflage paint; faces were obscured with netting, helmets, foliage, traditional Middle-Eastern headdresses and fake beards.

Totally hot. He can put a fatwa on me any day!
